42. Broadway Pizza

Minneapolis Riverfront

One of the many joys of parenting is when a young child makes a good choice. It could be something noble, like helping a stranger in a time of need, or a smaller sacrifice—like letting somebody else take the biggest slice of cake at a birthday party. In either case, and countless other similar situations, there comes a small but powerful affirmation that the tough lessons are actually connecting, despite all the highly questionable parenting techniques and general lack of awareness of things related to child wellness. In the world of pizza, now is such a time.

Broadway Pizza Northeast has been an institution, not only for the quality and consistency of its pizza, but for its firmly entrenched place in baseball folklore. They have provided us with kindness and great service during the recording a podcast. They’ve graciously hosted the PGB World Series (@#$%&!!!! Mark Hendrickson!) And it was the epicenter of the second-ever Groundout Convention in 2010, where a group of ten enjoyed their fare before heading a few blocks over to Target Field for a ballgame.

I’m sad that they’ve closed up shop, but as I alluded to, the area may be better off with the re-purposed land. They’ve started serving their recipe at a Downtown location a few miles away, but it’s not the same thing, and the steady march of progress waits for nobody. I will be covering their other remote locations later on in the series. So thank you to the original Broadway, for being a friend of the community, a great neighbor, and solid pizza provider. You are missed.
